Former Lok Sabha Speaker and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader P.A. Sangma on Friday met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani in an apparent bid to solicit the support of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for his candidature as President.
Mr. Sangma met Mr. Advani, who is also the NDA Working Chairperson, at the latter’s residence this morning. The meeting lasted around 20 minutes.
Mr. Sangma had announced earlier that he will be meeting Mr. Advani and other BJP leaders to garner their support for his plans of contesting the Presidential elections.
The NCP leader has maintained that no tribal has ever become the President of India. He is a Christian tribal from Meghalaya.
The former Speaker has met leaders from different parties, except the Congress and some of its allies, to win their support.
BJP is not likely to support Mr. Sangma as it is keen on fielding an NDA candidate for the top post. The party wants to put up a candidate against the Congress-led UPA to convey a message that it is not with the ruling party.

Dear Indians or Bharatiyans,
We need a strong representation from every corner of India, need of the hour representation from North East due to various geo economical security growth of NE India. This will help strengthen the feeling of the NE people as a left out or neglected part of India.
I agree to the candidate of Mr.P.A.Sangma on the following reasons of change that could happen to NE if elected.
1.If we get a non conflicting security in NE
2.Social Economic growth to this parts.
3.Inland water ways & integration.
4.100 % education for all in NE
5.More job oriented industry & IT Growth of NE
6.International dialogue to china to mark Arunachal pradesh as part of India in there map.
7.Systematic secured reduction of rebel groups in NE
All this can happen but North east remains to be vote bank political region for 90 year old freedom movement & 60 year old political party.
Neglected eastern states of India should not remain any more without any time, space or gap without any delay
This guy looks like..he has a lot of greed to become President. Hope it does not happen. Please do not expect anyone on the mould of Kalam this time...I will only be a dream
Mr Sangma's chances of becoming the President of India is in the hands of INC rather than any other political party. Being part of UPA it is better he garner the support of his own party and UPA rather than to go to others who would only appreciate (and pity)about the scheme of things.
i would Support those are not a politicians . there could be Chance to Raja to became president for this country. just he is hold Majority in Parliament or such People
