Station Road was my way to school and college days in Lucknow. It is the only road from airport to Rajbhawan where Nehru had to stay. My father was employee of National Herald. It had been witness of Nehru’s activities during freedom struggle and the attachment remained in his lifetime. Nehru used to visit Lucknow frequently. Huge crowd was present on both sides of the road during all his visits. We have seen smile on his face when children welcome him. I still remember his last visit. He was not well and had to be supported by Chandra Bhanu Gupta to move in standing position. We all had tears in our eyes and worried about his health. His death had shocked the country. I have seen only two public figures for whom every ground was insufficient to accommodate the crowd, one was Nehru and other is Vajpayee. Nehru has happened to be someone more than first PM for the people.
Surprisingly not many advertisements appeared paying homage to Pt Nehru as in the case of Rajiv Gandhi. Is there no uniform policy in the government to issue advertisements?
I wish this country will follow principles of Bhagwad Gita and live only in present. The past has no meanings specially when it is flawed.
