After her caution last month that a time may come when she will dictate to the public which newspapers they should read, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday advised people on what television channels they should watch.
Addressing a gathering at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district, she asked the congregation to desist from watching “two, three television news channels,” alleging that they were sponsored by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and suggested that the people, instead, watch entertainment channels.
“There are two-three television channels of the CPI(M) you should not watch. Listen to songs on other channels,” she said, referring to names of certain channels which people should watch.
While certain steps by her government led to criticism in a section of the media, Ms. Banerjee remained unperturbed.
“Nothing will be achieved by spreading canards and making false propaganda against me,” she told the gathering.
Ms. Banerjee said she did not want to hang on to power, adding the day the maa, mati, manus (mother, land and people) of the State wanted her to go, she would leave.
Earlier, on several occasions, Ms. Banerjee criticised a section of the media for being biased and presenting her government in a bad light.
Last month, the government restricted the subscription of newspapers to a prescribed list in the government-run, aided and sponsored libraries. The initiative, which, the State government claimed, was to promote small newspapers and spread free thinking, was widely criticised as an attack on the right of the freedom of speech and expression.

It is clear that Mamata Banerji thinks that she is now in "power". Now
it is not new to anyone that power corrupts, is it? The day she takes
off her blinkers and realizes that it is not "power" but a huge
'responsibility' to a state full of people who have been 'ruled' by a
self-serving government for the last four decades, she might be in a
position to decide that she and her team are not possibly up the task
and go back to sitting in the opposition benches. But the bigger question for the people of West Bengal is who can they trust to govern the state responsibly??
As the channels i.e. print, digital media(Web,Mobile etc..) to reach wide audience grew the potential to pass on information by misrepresenting them had even increased by multiple times. Validating the news is left to the individual perceiving it.
Very few channels which are still reliable were Hindu, CNN IBN. Rather than being carried away for monetary gains, they are sticking to the basics and it is the need for the hour.
Mamata Benarjee is undoubtedly the best CM for Bengal as she has a got a great forethought & vision which was missing in the predecessors.
Everybody in this country knows your behaviour Miss Mamataji. You are neither childish nor mature. I think you do not know when and how to react for things around you. It is a pity for people of West Bengal to elect you their leader. Perhaps, they have no other alternative on account of the longest incumbency of Left there. But one thing is clear. On one hand, you are criticising every Left effort and on the other you are just following the same rigidity and recklessness the leaders of past communist regimes, worldwide. Entire India is laughing at you but for the Bengal which is laughing behind you for fear of your cruelty.Perhaps, you do not know what you are doing. Good governance means good behaviour coupled with responsibility besides understanding peoples' aspirations. Let us start "paribartan" with yourself Didiji.
A great picture of Mamta as the Giant-killer; the stress is on the
Giant! People are glad that Time has recognized her even though people
of the state believe that she has shamed the state and the people who
elected her.
The fate of Bengal can only be change by Mamta didi, people should not spread canards, otherwise the state will relapsed.
All knows Mamta Benerjee is one of the strongest leader of india and Time magazine has also thumb on it.

Ms. Mamata Banerjee says "Negative publicity will not deter me: Mamata." We believe you Madam! When you were the Railway Minister, you have presided over the longest latrine in the world! Indian railways allow defecation in the trains while the feces fall on the tracks. Poor railway workers and coolies who walk along the rails that are littered with feces are allowed to suffer as a result. This instance shows that you do not care for any publicity and you have never worked for the welfare of the poor.
