The parents of Shubham Shirke, who was abducted and murdered here allegedly by three of his friends for ransom, have demanded justice for their son and stringent punishment for the killers.
“My son was innocent and friendly with everybody. The suspects tortured him before strangulating him to death for no reason. We want justice,” said Sunita Shirke, the mother of the 15-year-old, who was killed by his classmate and two other boys at Dighi on Saturday.
Sunita and Mahadev Shirke said, “This was a cold blooded murder of a minor by minors. If the law is against stringent punishment to minors, there is an urgent need to lower the age limit for juvenile crimes.”
The Shirkes also want that there should not be any political interference in the investigation.
“We want special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam to conduct the trial of our son’s case,” Ms. Sunita told reporters on Monday at her residence in Dighi.
Shubham was kidnapped on Saturday from Dighi area and was taken to a nearby hill where he was strangled to death. The accused then made a call to his father Mahadev Shirke demanding Rs 50,000 which was later brought down to Rs 15,000, police had said.
However, Shubham was not released even after his father Mahadev paid the money to the abductors that night following the ransom call. Thereafter, the parents approached Vishrantwadi police and three arrests were made in the case.
The teenager was a student of Priyadarshini English Medium School in Bhosari area and had appeared for his Class X exam this year. Out of the arrested accused, two are minors and one has given 12th standard examination this year.
One out of the three friends is a classmate of the deceased.
According to police, the three accused would keenly follow television serial ‘CID’ based on real crime incidents.

well to hang them will not solve the problem, though they should be punished hard as to set an example also, but there could be other punishment also, as they are just teenager.
moreover it will not gonna solve the problem, as its just one outcome, the rotten root is deep in dearth. unless it will be treated these things will repeat itself.
i see the media, education and the impotent police system as the main cause. these along with the neutral-trend of the society altogether are responsible.
a well known idiom in hindi
"jab boye ped babul ka to aam kaha se hoye"
i.e.
"if u are growing the thorns then how could u expect the fruits out of it"
As per the last part of this report, children are influenced a lot by the serials and movies - which points out the necessity to have a check on such programmes as also the responsibility of parents to monitor their wards' activities.
Very sad and shocking incident.
And this is not the first one. There are numerous crimes inspired by TV serials and movies.
Those movie makers, TV serial makers and TV channels should be prosecuted as well. In name of 'freedom' no one should be alowed to air such stuff of indirect influence on people.
I hope sever punishment will be awarded to criminals, 17 year old does not mean they are 'baby', that too a cold blooded murder can not be done due to lack of adulthood.
I can understand the pain the mother and father and the family must be going through. They have lost their beloved for no mistake of him.
juvenile crimes are on Raise in India.... due bad Effects of Movie & TV Serials juvenile Criminals deserve punishment as any other Criminals
Is there anything that moves on Fast Track mode in India? The major weapon for these politicians these days is just to Linger on.
the parents are demanding the correct thing. minors' involvement in the murder/crimes is too much. if these minors are left scotfree many persons will be suffering, in future as they will be criminal for 60 years more. so, not punishing minors for the heavy crimes will be equal to issuing the licence for the crimes for 60 more years. it is really a horrible situation.
This is a cold blooded murder. Parents of the accused should also own responsibility of this crime. They should also be punished. Nowadays there is nothing like juvenile crime as even children below 10 years do all sorts of mischief.
