Army chief Gen V.K. Singh has named retired Lt. Gen. Tejinder Singh in his complaint to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the alleged Rs.14 crore bribe offered to him to clear tranche of nearly 600 Tatra trucks.
CBI sources said Gen V.K. Singh has assured them of providing more material about the alleged bribe offer very soon.
The agency has started examining the complaint received on Friday and may question Lt. Gen. Tejinder Singh in connection with the case, they said.
Sources said a call on whether to proceed with a preliminary enquiry or a regular FIR would be taken soon.
Lt. Gen. Tejinder Singh has refuted the allegations. He has also filed a defamation case against the Army chief and other officers.
The agency was waiting for a formal complaint from the Army chief regarding details of alleged bribe offer to initiate a formal probe into the matter referred to it by the Defence ministry. CBI officers had met him on Monday evening.
The Army Chief had claimed in media interviews that an equipment lobbyist had offered him a bribe of Rs. 14 crore, a matter which he had reported to Defence Minister A.K. Antony.
The Ministry had then recommended a CBI probe into the allegation made by the Army chief.
After receiving reference from the Ministry, the agency had asked it to make available a complaint from the Army Chief besides other details such as list of witnesses and supporting documents after which it would initiate its probe in the case.

completely disagree with former NSA's rant and observation as he has not taken into account performance of Deepak Kapoor who was more interested in facing camera rather than doing any meaningful work for army. It also points to larger rift in army supported by different commands of Army to set a precedent that there should not be an army chief from special forces, he should be from the mainstream commands. Karan has not asked these questions. Additionally, former NSA has himself contradicted the facts himself. On one hand he saying Army chief is not authorised to take action against any corps commander but defence secretary can, on other hand he's complaining why Army chief did not take action when he made complaint to defence minister agaist Lt. general Tejinder khanna. Same logic should apply as Army chief is right in not taking, it is defence minister or Defence secretary who should be taking action on complaint by former NSA's logic. why apply it as per his own discretion.
Very sad state of affairs that integrity and discipline in Public administration has become rare; all with influence and family power (also money and muscle) go up the ladder irrespective of values they hold against public service. Politicians are drawn from criminal lot in many cases (with tonnes of ill gotten money stacked elsewhere ) AND now public servants and army personnel also are drawn into the ditch by the way they exert their authority and amass wealth, MOST PITIABLE SITUATION INDEED. Freedom ever in sight? NO NO
Many Indian Army Generals dont have even Basic Officer like Qualities-The Congress Party[mainly], IAS Babus & the Money bags Have converted these Commissioned officers into a bunch of Commission officers.
