A report submitted by a Kolkata hospital, which examined tribal teacher Soni Sori, who was allegedly tortured by the Chhattisgarh police, has said two stones were found in her private parts and rectum.
Anguished at the report, a Bench of Justices Altamas Kabir and S.S. Nijjar of the Supreme Court on Friday sought the Chhattisgarh government's response. It also directed the State government to shift her to the Raipur jail after senior counsel Colin Gonsalves told the court that the teacher's life was in danger in the Jagadalpur prison.
Ms. Sori was arrested for her alleged links with Maoists.
She moved the court alleging police torture. On the directions of the Bench, she was shifted out of the State and examined by doctors at the NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata for the injuries she sustained in police custody. Counsel wanted Ms. Sori taken out of the Jagadalpur prison.
The Bench posted the matter for final hearing in January next.

Comments:
It was the general impression that the Maoists were the most barbaric people. But the Chhattisgarh police seem to have outdone them by resorting to the most inhuman methods of torture. They do not seem to have any qualms or considerations either that the person that they tortured was a woman, not that a man could be subjected to such treatment. What they did to Ms.Soni Sori was worse than what probably Hitler and his Nazis did to the Jews. All those who participated in the torture should be meted out the stiffest punishment befitting their cruel deeds.
What kind of anguish, I don't understand, giving one and a half month time to do.. I even don't understand that is it a way of working style of our judicatory system or something else. (Our Law professional may better understand what this is!) Someone elucidate please. God saves all of us.
Disgusting! Infuriating! No punishment would be strict enough for the criminals who did this!
Indian police force believes in torture the ultimate weapon for making people confess to crimes. This is always had been the weapon of choice of the uneducated, untrained, barbaric police. They don't believe in Innocent until proven guilty. They will go to any lengths to obtain a confession. Judicial system is another joke. Shame on all of those who are involved. Where is the outrage? Where is the compassion? The judge should have removed her from that horrible prison and arrested those rouge police responsible for this. My heart goes out to the victim.
police should be severely punished for torturig helpless people in custody.
