Denying that the government had changed its stand since its talks with Team Anna on Tuesday, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said three demands had been placed before him: withdrawal of the Lokpal Bill, tabling of the Jan Lokpal draft in Parliament and the swift passage of the latter with at best minor amendments without any reference to the Standing Committee.
“I said I would check with the Prime Minister and get back to them,” Mr. Mukherjee told NDTV in an interview just after midnight. “Today [Wednesday], I told them it would not be possible to accept their demands.”
He added that the Standing Committee would consider the Jan Lokpal draft and recommend changes in the official Bill which would then be taken up in Parliament.
Union Law Minister Salman Khursheed said the differences with Team Anna were more about procedure than content. The government had taken a view that the standard parliamentary procedures had to be followed.

Real wonder is how can central government bend of each and every demand of Anna?his demands are so whimsical he don't believe on parliament no respect. for constitution. He says his bill is last authority. You must accept it as it is you have majority pass it blindly.Real wonder is Manmohon government bending before. him without protest. Why government taking firm stand?
Day before yesterday i had hope that Govt is thinking to solve the problem of corruption. Now i lost total credibility in Govt. especially Congress party. Whatever happen, Congress will never change or learn from its mistakes.
An open letter to Anna Hazare: Yes your fast enters 10th day. You, your team and supporters have exposed Corruption to the public, and the World. You have proved the non-violent protest possible without any untoward incident. You have proved the determination and will power to make corruption out from the Society. You have succeeded in enlisting the students and the youth to fight against corruption. Many of them have taken pledges. You have succeeded in sending the Jan Lok Pal bill to the Parliament Standing Committee. Congratulations and thanks.
However you cannot anymore play with your life. Now you have to change the strategy of our struggle. We have to start filling the jails of India. In the light of this may I request you to end your fast. May God bless you. Your brother in solidarity.
This is for the people of India fighting against corruption, Pranab if you could help in this matter, better resign, we will elect better goverment.
Change? Yes, we can, say Americans while our view is No, we can't. That is the difference between west and east. We are the people who live in past. We hardly have clear cut congruent views on any issue and the thinking is often selfish and limited. But for enterprising youth, we are on par only with Somalia and Ethiopia. We didn't yet understand the meaning of democracy even after 64 years, otherwise how that much BPL population exist? All our MPs say parliament is supreme without realising that they reflect their peoples voice and face. Eventhough one gets annoyed at the indiscipline in parliament everyday,I am convinced that good people elect good representatives. One can see best results in the system in future as people are demanding leaders about their contribution to society upliftment. Tricks in vogue of present day leaders are bound to fail as the public agitation has already raked up their mind a lot.
Knowing that the Congress always back tracks, Anna Hazare wants all decisions to be given in writing. The Congress Party never keeps it's word and hence many do not trust this government. As a simple example, the FM touted that taxpayers earning less that Rs. 5 lakhs a year need not file returns. Ultimately after delaying the announcement till end June, they put so many conditions that hardly anybody benefitted by it. While crores of rupees are put by their MPs in foreign banks, they even tax the meagre Savings Bank Interest which is less than half the inflation rate. Because of this many have to file returns. We cannot expect much from a Party which has so many criminals.
On 2nd May, 2002 Supreme Court of India has held that people have a right to know the antecedents of the candidates contesting for election. The same was replaced by Ordinance No. 4 of 2002, which was promulgated on 24th August, 2002. Later on the Representation of the People (3rd Amendment) Act, 2002 was enacted with effect from 28th December, 2002. If the legislature can enact a law protect themselves, why can't they make a law for the protection of the country. For whom the parliament stands. Is if for the people or for the Members.
It may be noted that Sri.KAPIL SIBAL, the present Minister was the Advocate for Justice.K.Ramaswami against whom impeachment proceedings were moved. Justice J.H.Kehar Sing (now the Chief Justice of Karnataka) has been recommended to be elevated to the Supreme Court of India, overlooking the seniority of many judges. This is judicial polit(r)icks.
If Pranab is honest, then all that is needed is that the PM give a written letter stating what changes would be incorporated and time frame to make it a law and have it signed by the GOM on political affairs and give it to Anna. We are done. The crucial thing is that the changes to the official bill has to be significant enough that the public at large will accept it. Otherwise, it will fail. The strength of Anna is coming from the fact that the public does not trust the government. The public has convicted the government is guilty of corruption unless proven otherwise. It is a long way for the government to crawl back to be trusted.
If he didn't have delegated authority to decide why should he ever initiate talks thereby endangering the life of a 72 year old on his 8th day of fast? These 'YES' Men to the authority and 'NO' Men to the public are the leftovers of British regime. They are just playing with words and twisting the facts.
