Goals of Indian Hindu nationalists were identical to Justiciar Knights, Anders Breivik claimed
Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik hailed India's Hindu nationalist movement as a key ally in a global struggle to bring down democratic regimes across the world.
‘2080: A European declaration of independence' lays out a road map for a future organisation, the Justiciar Knights, to wage a campaign that will graduate from acts of terrorism to a global war involving weapons of mass destruction — aimed at bringing down what Breivik calls the “cultural Marxist” order.
India figures in a remarkable 102 pages of the sprawling 1,518-page manifesto. Breivik's manifesto says his Justiciar Knights “support the Sanatana Dharma movements and Indian nationalists in general.” In section 3.158 of the manifesto, he explains that Hindu nationalists “are suffering from the same persecution by the Indian cultural Marxists as their European cousins.”
“Appeasing Muslims”
The United Progressive Alliance government, he goes on, “relies on appeasing Muslims and, very sadly, proselytising Christian missionaries who illegally convert low caste Hindus with lies and fear, alongside Communists who want total destruction of the Hindu faith and culture.”
Even though Hindus who are living abroad “get an eagle's view of what's happening in India, Indian Hindu residents don't see it being in the scene.”
Breivik's manifesto applauds Hindu groups who “do not tolerate the current injustice and often riot and attack Muslims when things get out of control,” but says, “this behaviour is nonetheless counterproductive.”
“Instead of attacking the Muslims, they should target the category A and B traitors in India and consolidate military cells and actively seek the overthrow of the cultural Marxist government.”
“It is essential that the European and Indian resistance movements learn from each other and cooperate as much as possible,” he concludes. “Our goals are more or less identical.”
Lists websites
Breivik lists the websites of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the National Volunteers' Organisation, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad as resources for further information.
The manifesto pledges military support “to the nationalists in the Indian civil war and in the deportation of all Muslims from India.” This is part of a larger campaign to “overthrow of all western European multiculturalist governments” and evict “U.S. military personnel on European soil.”
India is one of several countries — including Russia, the Philippines, China and Thailand — where Breivik hopes his successors will fight.
He uses the work of historians K.S. Lal and Shrinandan Vyas to point to the threat posed by Islam to Europe, saying their work has established that millions of Hindus were killed in a genocide during 1000-1525 AD. N.S. Rajaram, another historian, is quoted as saying India's “political class have been so debilitating that they continue to live in a state of constant fear.”
Breivik's manifesto envisages that this future organisation would hand out a “multi-cultural force medal,” which would be awarded for “military cooperation with nationalist Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and/or atheist forces (non-European) on Hindu, Buddhist or Jewish territory. These efforts must be directed against Jihadi or cultural Marxist forces, personnel or interests.”
The medals would include a “Liberation of India Service Medal,” which would be awarded for “assisting Indian nationalist forces to drive out Islam from Indian territory.”
Breivik's Indian-made combat badges, revealed by The Hindu as having been contracted to a workshop in Varanasi, were the first in this series of battle decorations.
His manifesto acknowledges that lives will be lost in the war, and calls for the organisation to “provide and subsidise a standard edition of the Justiciar Knight tombstone” for those who fell in battle.
Since a “European tombstone carver, preferably specialised in traditional tombstone architecture, is likely to charge more than 5000-10000 Euro in order to create the stone,” Breivik suggested that “producers in low-cost countries should be contacted for the task of creating one or multiple stones in the future.”
He acknowledged that this “might sound hypocritical considering the fact that cultural conservatives in general oppose Indian or Chinese membership in [the] WTO and the fact that we generally prefer in-sourcing as many industries as possible. However, conserving our funds is a central part of our struggle.”
Even though Breivik's Knights would fight shoulder to shoulder with Hindu nationalists, his vision for their rights in a post-revolutionary Europe is limited. The manifesto envisages the creation of a “servant class,” made up of non-Muslim individuals from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India.
“During their stay,” the manifesto envisages, “they will work 12 hours a day for the duration of their contracts (6 or 12 months) and are then flown back to their homelands.” “These individuals,” it goes on, “will live in segregated communities in pre-defined areas of each major city.”

Whether you're an Indian, European or Arab, christian, hindu or moslem, take care of each other. Do not fall for the destructive and hatefull ideologies of the lunatics of Breiviks like. I'm not religious, but if devils existed... breivik sure would be one of them.
"A sad, pathetic result of the effect of fear on people. Losing all hope, he seeks to counter maybe drive out fear with fear, the sad myth of power. All of us coming from the same earth have something in us more powerful than this, which have been hidden by fear.It is a spirit that connects each of us. Its basis is a respect for life and a want to create value and HAPPINESS in ourselves and in the process for others. How can we get people to realize this and work towards better rather than trying to ruin things further?" from: Sahil Sen.
Thank you. The truth undeniably fills oneself with light. Your question is something that I've been pondering lately. I'm very concerned, the notion of it being 'possible' seems overwhelming in lieu of the current state of humanity-insanity. And even as I write, wondering if there is such a thing as-it's too late, I can't deny the hope and love inside my being. What good are eyes if we are consciously blind?
Compare this article with what is emerging about the killers' mindset and his psyche, as daily media, court and police reports. There does not appear to be any connect with 'Hindutva' as defined by honourable Supreme Court of India 'as a way of life' and the 'murder spree' that Anders Breivik unleashed in Norway. It appears that 'The Hindu' has got carried away at an early stage.
Let us concede a few things to the author: This mass murderer did talk about the hindutva fanatics(?!) in India. And let us concede right wing terror does exist (even though that matter has been subjudice for two years now). Now, the more pertinent questions:
1. This killer was talking about upholding christian values in his country. what does that say about right-wing christian groups all over the world? 2. despicable as his acts are, they pale in comparison with the religious genocide in Pakistan, the atrocities of the Taliban in the pre-9/11 era, and the religious inequalities in the middle-eastern countries. I am not just talking about denial of religious rights - but about human rights violations, and crimes against women and children. Aren't these acts committed by nations professedly islamic, and with societal consent? Why doesn't Mr. Swami talk about these two points? Is it because it will hurt his 'secular' credentials? If you have to write, try to be balanced.
This guy is out of his mind. And am surprised people using the word radical hindutva or radical islam. What nonsense? Can someone show me which religious book talks of radicalism? People self infer out of religion to suit their own self. Even if there were no religion on Earth, this radicalism would have happened in the name of something else. It is just the animal instinct in mankind, which uses religion as an excuse all the time to disguise his lunacy.
I do not think the Hindutva ideology should be bashed just because that fanatic happened to admire it, just as it would be absurd to blame those who stand for the special rights for minorities for few fundamentalist who vow to make India a Christian/Islamic country. I find Hindutva amusingly absurd. But we cannot deny the fact that this ideology attracts a considerable section of urban youth. The strategy to counter Hindutva should focus on the absurdities of this ideology. Unfortunately most English media tends to demonize it. I think its counter productive because it pushes sympathizers of Hindutva towards radicalism.
The reality is that Hindutva with the context it is quoted these days is well and truly synonymous with violence and intolerance(Shiv sena, Bajrang dal) , pogroms(Kandhamal), state managed riots(Gujarat) and other terrorist activities(Malegaon blasts). To say that is not accurate is true, but who is going to revise it's definition? Sadly it is following in the footsteps of radical Islam.
To the people who think Hinduism and Hindutva are the same, it is not. The Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik was right about everythign he said about the HINDUTVA movement in india. If you can visit Bangalore and have a look at the way the RSS have been showing off. Marching through the streets like how the NAZI's did before Krystal Nicht. RSS take marches through muslim/ christian populated areas to create fear. This is not a imagination by the Norwegian. If he can talk so much about indian parties its the fire we all are sitting under. HINDUISM is not the problem - HINDUTVA is. Till people realise that. There will be a blood bath just as the Norwegian says. But as stupid as he is. Finally he showed his true colours that he wanted a slave class of Indians. BJP, ABVP, RSS, VHP, can all be the supervisors of this slave class now.
What a nut case. Just what we need... a psycho to encourage our already insane right wing parties to go harass more minorities, bomb public areas, and god forbid, shoot kids.
Once again it has been proved that religious fanaticism is the source of trouble, be Islam, Christianity or Hinduism etc., all religions sound the same but in essence they have split the people and ganged one group against the other. We should check on home grown terror groups before we become Pakistan or Afghanistan.
What a charming guy this person is. He praises India's Hindu Nationalists but at the same time proposes to enslave Indians and all other colored peoples whom he regards as inferior peoples. This is the typical mentality of the White Racist or White Supremacists and does remind me of the Imperialists who conquered and enslaved Indians 200 years ago. The fact of the matter is that the number of Far-Right and Neo-Nazi White Supremacist groups in Europe and the US are increasing dramatically. These groups are poisoning the minds of the new generation with their ideology of hatred and racial superiority.
Indians should look cautiously at this new ideology coming from these countries because such thinking if profilerated sufficiently could result in a new push for colonialism and imperialism from the West.
Government should investigate the relationship of RSS n VHP with foreign terrorist groups. We Indians need no terrorism in the name of Hinduism or Islam or any other religion. No religion preaches terrorism, why cant we hold our hands to fight together against all types of terrorism.
There is a lot of importance being given to this deranged fanatic. More importantly focus needs to be on the motive and the cause behind such an insane act committed by this monster which did not care about the harm caused on so many innocent families. The root cause of these problems is the politics by all. Any terrorist is not a true religious practitioner because no religion allows to kill innocents. All humans people should speak and talk about these insane motives to younger generations whether it is someone in Europe, Arabia, India or anywhere in the world for peace to prevail without which we will make this paradise a hell to live. It is not about religion it is about extremist views; for example, in Pakistan there is a problem between Shia and Sunni, in India we have castes, religion, language and regions, the same with Christianiaty in Europe between Protestants and Catholics. May God give us wisdom to understand his world and our life.
Violent ideologies will only produce such violent murderers....
Anything which goes up has to come down someday!! The hate logic as practiced by Hindutva for Indian minorities has gone too much into the head of Anders Breivik which inspired him to do more killings forcefully than what Hindutva did periodically to the Indian minorities. This unhuman treats are similar to the nazis and the ultra-rightist who have gone unchecked for so long all over EU countries. They should be investigated and stopped before anymore bloodshed happens??
It is disturbing that this deranged individual sees the hindutva gang as his fellow soldiers in his mad cause. The only reason that this has come about is that their agendas are no different. It is one madman acknowledging the existence of a party of madmen in India who have and would not hesitate to butcher their own country men.
The title of the manifesto is '2083 A European Declaration of Independence', not 2080... I thought Praveen did not go through the original work of fanatic Anders Breivik.
Being a Hindu, I feel proud. we have no issue with other religions, but do other religions have same respect for us. What has happenned to India by being freindly, and did the partition really achive what it was supposed to? Lets face it, we are a confused state, searching for its identity.
It's a conspiracy ! Everyone know this sick person is a fundamentalist Christian. Now they are embarrassed by it and are finding a way to hide it. Blaming it on Hindus is a better option ahhhh ??
Whatever be his ideology, the provocation and the prophecy, in net effect it is evident to any sane reader that Breiivik's behaviour, ideas and manifesto show utter madness. I am surprised and shocked at the paper like The Hindu publishing an article of this nature and content based on Breiivik's story. How steep is the fall in the level of journalism ? Can this be called responsible journalism by any stretch of imagination ?
This proves one doesnt need Islam or Jihadism to become suicide bomber or mass murderer. Any one can be tamed to be a mass murderer using Christianity, Hinduism or even Communism, its the hatred that matters. Where are the people who blamed the whole of Muslim world and Islam as the only patented group/theory for terrorism?
Why are people getting so sensitive here? This so called "manifesto" is nothing but this fellow Anders Breivik putting down his thoughts, opinions, and observations, from his own perspective. Does it have any real value? Not in my opinion. But it is interesting to see how this Hindutva business is perceived by a lunatic. It seems to create some resonance with this fool's thoughts. To me, that part is scary and if I cared about Hindutva's ideologies, I'd examine this very deeply - if only to understand Hindutva a little more.
Really what a fine way of moralizing A Psychopaths ramblings.
Isn't that clear that we ALL Indians (hindus by way of life, no matter whether we go to a temple or mosque or church or synogogue) completely derailed from "Hindu" ideals? If we indians, irrespective of our religious orientation, have had any love for our country, its cultural heritage and take pride in it, would frequent bombings in Indian soil happen? Unless we fix ourselves from within first, future reference for such massacre and radical thoughts would keep coming, and perhaps even "genuinely" justifies the neccesity and strengthen the ideals of all religious fanaticism in India and around the world.
If we indians, irrespective of our religion, have any love for our country, its cultural heritage and take pride in it, would frequent bombings in Indian soil happen? From a common man to mainstream politicians, we are ready to sell our country even for a few thousand rupees - perhaps only in this context we have the tolerance for "other" religious fanaticism.
'servant class' . This should be eye opener for people of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
This man is a crazy person. Why is what he mentioned in his 'manifesto' important. That said, organizations like RSS, VHP and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishad are not good for the moral or intellectual health of our country. My hope is that a greater exposure to information and multiculturalism of India will subdue them and slowly make them irrelevant. Many people in India are never exposed to cultures or people outside of that into which they were born. Telugus move with Telugu people, Tamils with tamils and so on. Somehow these boundaries must be made more porous. I don't know how though, but there is always hope.
What does this man want to say?if we just analyse and think impartially, then it is nothing but perpetuation of European ethnocentrism and the notion that Christianity is supreme.why he wants to allay with BJP or RSS etc is his miscontrued notion that the ideology of these organisations is to persecute muslims and deport them out.Where has he read hindutva and what does he know about and what he has to do with it?what implies from my analysis is that he wants to perpetuate christain ideology as dominant ideology in world and consider others subrervient to it.He considers muslims as his enemies and assumes similar attitude from Hindus.if this is true then muslims would have been rife in India. He seeks to instigate violence in India against muslims to reduce them to destitute postition and deport them out of India. This will serve nothng to country India but will serve his ill_anticipated ideology.I wish this ideology falls flat on hindutava proponants and dont let their ideology to be tainted by such notions of vandetta.Ideology cant be imposed on others,it should be such as to attrac others and multiply its following.
I wonder why The Hindu has published this mass murderer's article when we are not supposed to believe even the prime accused in the 2G scam-A Raja (when he dragged PM and PC into the 2G scam). Psychopaths like him cannot change the world in a constructive way and hence blame history and resort to illogical means to propagate their ideology and newspapers like yours help them in their propaganda in the guise of sensationalizing your news headlines. Hindutva-a word coined by Swatantryaveer Savarkar, is far above any narrow interpretations made here by this tyrant. And I can't help but mock him about his views that we-Indians would join him to serve Europe again, willingly! We can solve our problems ourselves-be it corruption or terrorism. We will, in fact!
The is a request to TheHindu to not publish these kind of articles which does not serve any purpose to society. People have used religion in mass killing. Media should not become a propaganda tool for these kind of people.
Its a highly biased news article and a crude attempt to malign the Hindu Dharma and all nationalist organizations in one stroke. It is full of half truths and by carefully cherry picking, author has tried to give an impression of some sort of collusion between him and Indian nationalist organizations.
Goes to prove how birds of a feather flock together..... Right wing organizations in India have been involved in the Mecca Masjid Blast....the Samjhauta Train Blast....and Malegoan blasts...this should act as an eye opener.... Sadhvi Pragya was seen in the company of many prominent BJP leaders..this should also be investigated by the NIA.
Well done for publishing this, its a wake up call. Indian Hindu Nationalists need to wake up to their own history, how it is a MODERN (not ancient) movement, influenced by Nazism and Fascism (just see RSS uniform compare with Missolini's fascists, blackshirts and this killer guy) as a reaction to muslim league band british divide and rule. Time to take back true vasudhaiva kutumbakam hinduism from these deluded sangh parivar fascists.
Some people do whatever needed to support and propagate their ideologies. If they just show the same caliber in checking basic fundamentals of the ideologies they represent they would realize how inhuman they really are.
Is it just me or does their manifesto seem a tad bit influenced by Nietzsche? ...'servant class' and all... :D
It is really sad that an esteemed newspaper like 'The Hindu' and a respected journalist like Praveen Swami are wasting their time and energy on the ramblings - the so-called 'manifesto' - of a mad man.
The headline is not correct, and gives wrong impression about Hindutva. he might have read Indian history and events happened in India, and he might have thoughts its same situation as he thought is in his country, but its nothing to do with Hindutva..Hindutva is not a sigle sentece or book, its a big ocean with life and peace and way to achive/reach/be god...its nothing to do with religion... please dont misguide the people/reader/world by such headlines..
His manifesto talks about almost all ancient religions. I guess he wants people to stay in their own country based on their religion, say Muslims in Gulf area, Hindus in Bharat, Christians in Europe, Buddhists in China, etc. It's his view and no govt. especially UPA will dare to ask people to vacate India/Bharat. Even Gandhi himself couldn't do. Maybe if he had done that in 1947, things could have been peaceful, with only internal wars. But it is too late now, and nobody cannot predict the future. History is always new. So don't blame any religion as of now, just based on his views.
This Norvegian is a mass kiler, a fanatic, a shame to humanity, but the worst are those who are behind him, the campaign of hatred against all human values, which made him a worst criminal.
The lesser spoken on Brevik's views, opinions and (*cough*) manifestos, the wiser a "punishment" it is to his deeds. To be gunning down innocents for around 90-minutes is barbaric. Norway has, wisely, chosen to deny him the public and press. Don't advertise his manifesto, dear press!
A sad, pathetic result of the effect of fear on people. Losing all hope, he seeks to
counter maybe drive out fear with fear, the sad myth of power.
All of us coming from the same earth have something in us more powerful than
this, which have been hidden by fear.
It is a spirit that connects each of us. Its basis is a respect for life and a want to create value and HAPPINESS in ourselves and in the process for others.
How can we get people to realize this and work towards better rather than trying to ruin things further?
The media( though inadvertently) by giving out too much details on the ideologies of such people, on a public domain, does more damage than good.
This is a pathetic attempt to malign Hindutva, which essentially is a celebration of hinduism. Will people talk about how he was inspired by the Knights templar, and attack Christianity?
What a sad state of affairs in our country that being proud of one's religion is equated to fundamentalism.
The United Progressive Alliance government, he goes on, “relies on appeasing Muslims and, very sadly, proselytizing Christian missionaries who illegally convert low caste Hindus with lies and fear, alongside Communists who want total destruction of the Hindu faith and culture.”
----------------------
Now why would a CHRISTIAN FUNDAMENTALIST who just mass-murdered nearly 100 innocent civilians give a damn or even show an ounce of sympathy for poor Hindus being converted by CHRISTIAN missionaries?
Title is highly objectionable , it hurts feeling of all indians in general and Hindus in particular.
the articulation in the article brings very appropriately the basic tenant of right wing ideology which feeds on hate mongering....hindutava forces must have been jumping on their heels throughout the article till the last sentences which brought them back to their knees where they should be ideally so that the values of shared culture can be enjoyed by the citizens of this country..its the commumalization of the society which they resorted from 80's onwards which is responsible for present state of wedge between communities in India..His fear about Marxist is in a way right we will definitely work hard to bring India to its goal of true secular country..
He is, by all means, a smart deception point with a pure intention of concealing his terror act. So shocking to hear he is using Hindutva.
It seems more like sensationalization of news which is not worth mentioning in reputed paper like the The Hindu......which has a very good regard internationally for its authenticity and editorials.
Better introspect before its too late to make a course correction.
His ideas related to Hinduism seem to arise out of his own sickness and lack of knowledge of Hinduism. It is unfortunate that people forget the very Hindu philosophy of "Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam" (whole mankind is our family).
Is Anders Behring Breivik the spokesperson of whole of European Christians? Why give narrow-mindedness of a mass-murderer such a prominent space and draw wild comparisons? Let the Norwegian law takes its own course and justice be done to the deceased. Terror, inspired from any kind of ideology, must be dealt as pure terror with no ifs and buts.
The title is properly selected. Hindu and Hindutva are leading people to two entirely different directions. While Hindu propagate Dharma, Hindutva propagates Adharma.
This is a wake up call for all moderates to unite and fight this kind of craziness. Unfortunately many of his ideas and thoughts are part of constant rhetoric in BJP and its allies statements. Same goes to radicalized Muslims who call for a Muslim world free of infidels. I hope everyone here in the comments section vehemently opposes all such views that came out of this mass murderer else we will find this knocking at our doorsteps.
I hope the Hindutva group realizes the connection between their fanaticism and that of this killer.
Talk about having your cake and eating it too! Also I'm not surprised at the number of comments that have come up condemning the article, and here's the best part, not one of the authors seems to have read the same article everyone else is reading!
Anders Breivik is nothing short of a psycopath killer who's got no concern for others' lifes, and this is becoming a dangerous trend in the West. Human are turning to Barbaric Ways.
Modern India seems to care too much about its outside image while vehemently denying its internal realities. If this terrorist quoted the right wingers here in India and The Hindu mentioned it in a news then what's wrong in that? It so exists in India and to the level that it can reach to the shores of Norway. Oh, and I'm anything but Congress supporter. I'd like BJP to be in power solely because I want good governance and some legit competition in Indian politics and not because of 'akhand bharat' which is a stupid idea in present day demographics. Its time we Indians become more honest about ourselves else we might end up becoming Pakistan. AND NOBODY WOULD WANT THAT!!!
Now Mr. Chidambaram and galore of Congressman can say RSS and in turn BJP is behind him and we are rigorously investigating. Democracy is a great framework for people to express themselves, this is a ridiculous act and awakening. Different democracies have to be proactive in communicating and in ensuring this kind of massacre doesn't happen.
People here are overreacting just because they think that mentioning of Hinduism by this deranged terrorist/killer is a bad publicity of Hinduism and India. I'm currently reading his manifesto (it DOES NOT mean I subscribe to his views or condone the massacre he did) and so far it seems that the author uses 'systematic genocide of Hindus by Islamic invaders for several centuries' as an example to advance and justify his 'reasoning/paranoia.'
Oh and by the way, the news article says 'Hindutva' and not Hinduism. IMO, Hinduism (Sanatan Dharma) is a way of life, a belief system, something more inward thing while Hindutva is a political expression of religious identity, a more outward thing. Finally, my early analysis of this episode : how so ever tragic and unfortunate and wrong this entire massacre is, this event would be recorded and quoted for many centuries to come. Currently everybody would like to distance themselves from this lunatic's act but can't be said so about future.
Such an act of violence has no classification in any religion.Whether be Islam or Hinduism.Killing of innocent in no way a religious ideology. This act is being committed for a sharp religion polarization,we need to be united as one world, one nation standing for universal peace and unity. We express our solidarity towards all our Norwegians brothers and Sisters.Such an act is a crusade against humanity. We are with you Norway in this crusade.
I think his motive of spreading his ideas is being unfortunately fulfilled by such sensational writings. He is just insane. Could we please just let him be unimportant, Instead of making cover stories about his stupid manifesto? Such acts will only spoil the atmosphere and may even inspire others to follow. Thanks!
The wild imagination of a islamophobic deranged man... Unfortunate....
Yes, hindutva was mentioned in 10% of the document. Mr.Praveen - would you care to elaborate what the rest of the manifeto was about? It was about preserving CHRISTIANITY and was against islam. Perhaps, there facts are not as important as making a nexus between terrorist onslaughts and hindutva regardless of whether they happened in Mumbai or Oslo. What an agenda!
This man's purpose was for his manifesto to be printed and read widely. Thanks to the editors for helping him achieve his goal.
Very insightful article! Yes, it is really quite important to point out these connections; after all, RSS itself had praised Hitler and retains an appreciation of him and the Nazis. One must read Ashis Nandy et al's edited book Creating a Nationality: The Ramjanmbhoomi Movement and the Fear of Self for enlightenment on this issue. Further, many readers critical of this article are mistaking Hindutva for Hinduism (which goes to show that the Hindutva propaganda has been quite successful).
I think we are giving this man all the attention he wanted, and fulfilling every bit of his desire. Comparing it to Hindus is only making Hindus seem like terrorists. All that he has written is only thoughts of a disturbed and ill informed mind, and in no way reflects the spirit of hindu culture.
A topic good to be discussed in THE HINDU.
There is one thing in this manifesto of a deranged mind that I look with approval - substituting the word, 'leftist' with a new phrase, 'cultural marxist.' Well, he might have meant it as an insult, but, if i am ever described by that phrase, I shall be pleased.
It is so immature of the moderate news website 'The Hindu' to post an article on the Norway killer who's responsible for mass murder. His open appreciation of the radical Hindu extremism and anti-Islamic rhetoric does not serve any purpose. Such an act committed by an European must be termed 'Terrorism'.
A brave, ethical, honest and praiseworthy reporting by The Hindu.
Another time and another person who made use of icons from Hinduism and used history and events to distort facts to his own advantage was Adolf Hitler, who used Aryan supremacy theory. India is an ancient land with a lot of history. Hinduism has been around for a very long time. Time to time there are struggles that everyone goes through and people have opinions. To stretch all this and portray that Hindus had something to do with this episode in Norway is the worst form of journalistic slant I have ever come across. To use the word Hindutva in such a demeaning way encompassing everything that is morally repugnant and throw it at most pacifist group that populate India, is irresponsible. Headline journalism like this needs to be moderated. Focus on facts and don't create your own headlines.
Hindutva, from it's inception, was a flawed right wing view. India, if it were to ever walk down that path (though highly unlikely), it will devolve. Diversity and ethnic tolerance is the way to go. Right wing ideology has it's place in a complex political spectrum that is India. Every view has it's place - however, when one side unbalances this spectrum in a free society (like this Norway incident), where everyone has a right to an opinion, things get bad. It's a question of balance, we can't label and completely write-off an ideology, despite it's flaws because of the existence of the Indian Constitution that guarantees a right to an opinion as long as it does not do harm to another.
The Hindu should not lower itself to being the mouthpiece for a mass murderer.
Difficult to understand your motive to write this type of article. This sounds completely crazy to me. In India terror is not threat but real and Norway is way different. None is proved against Hindu so called terrorist even after 2 narco tests.
It is a joke that you should take one deranged man's comments as if he is a leader of country and publish his manifesto....Isn't it a joke that one fellow with a gun that can do enough damage wants to give military support to fight Hindu cause...to a country with over a billion people. This is a cruel joke on Hindus, better stop this nonsense.
Will Praveen Swami bother mentioning that Breivik took inspiration from Christianity too and that he sees himself as one of Templar knights - an ancient Christian monk who were fierce warriors of the religion? This article is rather pathetic attempt to sling mud on Hindus using cherry picked talking points.
It is very sad that some crazy person like him,use great nation of India and one of great religion - Hinduisms to advance his sick ideology.Every culture, religion & nation has its share of crazy persons.
The Indian media, especially the so-called mainstream media should take time off from hounding well intentioned Indian liberals's 'Fai/ISI' connections, to investigate the probable connection of extreme right wing Indians to Anders Breivik and any organisation he might belong to. This is important in the context of references in the press to possible extreme right wing involvement in the recent Mumbai bomb blasts
His views are like of Hitler (I know he hates Nazis, but still).i laughed at the 'servant class'. Did he really think nationalists will fight for their own enslavement?
People being influenced by persons, happenings, theories, mass hysteria, sounds even, etc., do not give credence to the source. There are different reactions to the same thing, according to their own perception (Or perversion !) Breivik's hailing Hindutva comes under the same category. Even Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation movement was criticised by Churchill and right now there are people in India, who agree with him for all the petty troubles our country is facing.
With these eerie strange coincidences, just goes to show once more its very small world indeed!!!!
The title of this news story is totally in appropriate. Where is the Hindutva involved in this case ? The artist happens to live in Varanasi, but he is also muslim. In addition, there is no interaction between the Norwegian and the artist except for the business.
