But Moily rejects resignation offer
Upset at Communications Minister Kapil Sibal's move to engage a private lawyer to argue a 2G case in the Supreme Court, overlooking government law officers, Solicitor-General Gopal Subramaniam, second top law officer of the country, offered his resignation to the Law Minister Veerappa Moily, who, however, turned down the offer.
According to informed sources, Mr. Subramaniam was shocked when he came to know that a senior advocate had been engaged by Mr. Sibal to defend the 2G case, arising from an application filed by advocate Prashant Bhushan alleging that he (the Minister) showed favours to Reliance Telecom in the levy of penalty.
The sources said Mr. Subramaniam, who has been appearing in the 2G cases, conveyed the message that it would be an embarrassment for him to appear along with the advocated appointed by Mr. Sibal as he was junior to him. However, Mr. Moily gave an assurance that he would sort out the matter and refused to accept the resignation offer. Mr. Subramaniam could not be reached for his comments.

CBI and CAG admit that Govt has lost crores of rupees in 2G scam. But our extra ordinarily intelligent minister finds no loss in revenue at all. When Kapil Sibal was willing to forgo thousands of crores of loss (anyhow it's not his money) in 2G scam, how can you not expect him to defend few crores of loss to Govt. C'on. Ministers like Kapil Sibal are a disgrace to the nation.
It is best left to the client to choose his lawyer(s).Seniority is not the criteria for judging the efficiency of a lawyer. Some may be better at defending a particular case. And its also the case of once bitten n twice shy.
Kapil Sibal has every right to defend himself by choosing an advocate of his choice as he feels the PIL is malicious and defamatory in nature.
The Govt. yet again finds it's foot in it's mouth with it's most celebrated spokesperson Mr. Kapil Sibbal desperately grabbing all the limelight for all the wrong reasons. It seems that Sibbal, and not the centre Govt.,seems to be calling all the shots now. It's appalling to see how the Govt. has let lose so many of it's untamed Ministers to do as their whims please. With such undiscipline prevailing amongst those who are in power, what does one expect of such a Nation's masses.
This is surely an embarassment for the solicitor general and by offering resination to Moily, he took a right step. Probably it would be a proper answer to Kapil Sibal. This is again an effort of the govt. to defame and killing of the institution. This would be a wrong precedent for the future govts and corrupt will distort the rules for personnal benefits. Surely the tenure of Kapil Sibal as a minister is a great embarassment to the govt.
This is yet another instance that shows the government in a poor light. Often it is the ill-prepared client who grumbles against the lawyer he has appointed. It is far worse when the client happens to be the central government of a big nation and the forum is the apex court of the country. It would do well for the central ministers to find out how the officers of the government had conducted the cases, especially at what level were the officers who were deputed to brief the counsel. It is common knowledge that once a case is filed by the government, it is the lowest in the graded hierarchy that attends to court cases and briefs the counsel. In the situation government faces with so many of the prominent cases getting a drubbing at the court, Solicitor General Mr. Gopal Subramaniam has done well to put in his papers in keeping with the dignity of his office.
It is very unfortunate that being an advocate himself, Mr. Kapil Sibal failed to see the nuances involved in such a move. only God's intervention (i.e., Padmanabhaswamy temple treasure find)can compensate the 2g losses suffered by the nation at the hands of the corrupt DMK ministers and their cohorts.
