Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni would soon become the latest high profile celebrity to get an honorary commission in the Territorial Army.
Chief of the Army Staff General V.K. Singh made the offer when Dhoni and Suresh Raina called on him at the Army House here on Tuesday evening.
Gen. Singh complimented Dhoni on the remarkable performance of the Indian team in winning the World Cup and praised the quality of leadership of the young captain, sources in the Army said.
Offer accepted
Dhoni accepted the offer, stating that he was always keen to join the Army; has a number of friends in the Service and interacted with a number of people serving in the Army, the sources said.
As for granting Dhoni the honorary commission, the sources said it would be processed as per procedure.
Over the past few years, actor Mohanlal and the former India cricket captain, Kapil Dev, were granted honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army while the Indian Air Force accorded honorary rank of Group Captain to Sachin Tendulkar last year.

Now we are making mockery of the system. First the govt is announcing gifts -abusing the tax payers money and now the army is making a mockery of the system. while i appreciate the achievement, we should not pamper them to the extent that we start abusing our system, afor heaven sake at least spare the services. Shame on you -General and the congress govt.
