Army is set to roll out a new automation software for its over 12 lakh soldiers, in an effort to provide them easy access to their service records, such as salary, leave, transfer and postings.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar would launch ARPAN 3.0 (Army Record Office Process Automation 3.0) tomorrow, to coincide with the National Digital India Week, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, sources said.

“With this software, a soldiers including the junior commissioned officer can access service record at the unit level itself through army’s intranet facility, using an assigned login id and password,” a source said.

Developed jointly by the Army Software Development Centre (ASDC) and Tech Mahindra, ARPAN 3.0, using state-of-the-art web-based technology, the software would be implemented across 45 of the Army’s Record Offices in the country in one year time, sources said, adding, it has already been test-bedded at seven such offices.

“As of now, all these records are maintained manually, which is a time-consuming exercise. Implementation of the new software would cut down the time significantly,” the source said.

The army has invested Rs 1.9 crore in developing ARPAN 3.0 with the Tech Mahindra, which got the contract after a competitive bidding process, sources said.
