Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said here on Thursday that every aspect of life changes with time and urged students to be a “part of the change”.
Addressing students of the Bengal Institute of Business Studies he said: “The world in the 21st century is driven by knowledge. What worked yesterday will not work today.”
Education, Mr. Kalam maintained is not about a degree or a job, adding that the human mind undergoes several struggles to achieve excellence.
He advised students to “work and succeed with integrity” in order to make the country a better nation. “When you are inspired by noble purposes you find yourself in a new world. You should always respect the work of others irrespective of their caste, creed and religion,” he said.
Mr. Kalam urged the audience to “create a circle of integrity so that people with bad intentions are unable to penetrate it.”
“Every one should determine a long-term goal”, he added.
Pointing out seven qualities that make a leader he said: “A leader must have a vision, a passion to realise the vision, should have the courage to take decisions, travel the unexplored path, be able to manage success and failure, be transparent in action and should work with integrity.”
