15 Corps, BSF, Army observed restraint as other five members of patrol party reached post

A Junior Commissioned Officer [JCO] of the Army died on Monday reportedly in small-arms fire from a Pakistani post near Aman Setu — a bridge on the LoC in Uri sector, connecting Kashmir Valley with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Defence sources told The Hindu that a patrol party of six soldiers came under small-arms attack a little after midnight near Kaman Post. Subedar Prakash Chander of 8-Kumaon Regiment sustained injuries and subsequently died at a military hospital.

His body will be flown to his residence in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, on Tuesday for the last rites.

Spokesperson at the headquarters of 15 Corps Naresh Vij said the patrol party did not respond to the gunfire for fear of exposure. Even the Army and the Border Security Force [BSF] pickets observed restraint, he said. Others in the patrol party reached their post safely.
