President Pratibha Patil has cleared the appointment of T. Mathivanan, A. Arumugasamy and K.B.K. Vasuki from the subordinate judiciary as Madras High Court Judges. The warrant of appointment is expected next week.

With their appointment, the strength of judges in the High Court will go up to 55.

The sanctioned strength is 60 — 45 permanent and 15 additional judges. The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Raja Elango of the Madras High Court as a Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, who was sought to be transferred to the Karnataka High Court, will continue to be a Judge in the Madras High Court as her representation that she be retained in the same High Court has been accepted by the collegium.
