Speculation about Defence Minister A.K. Antony contesting the Lok Sabha elections from a seat of his choice in Kerala has been put to rest.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) V.M. Sudheeran told a news conference here on Sunday that Mr. Antony had “instructed” him to inform the media that he will not be in the fray this poll season.

Mr. Sudheeran’s statement came in response to questions about the possibility of the Congress fielding Mr. Antony and Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi in the elections.

“Many of you have been reporting about such a possibility, but Antony has instructed me to tell you that he will not be in the fray,” a smiling Mr. Sudheeran said.
