Anti-Maoists activist killed

May 04, 2010 12:14 am | Updated 12:14 am IST - KOLKATA:

Maoists killed one person near Jhargram in the Lalgrah region of West Bengal's Paschim Medinipur district late on Sunday night. The victim, Ram Mandi, was a member of the Gana Pratirodh Committee that was set up in early 2009 to counter Maoist activities.

Superintendent of Police Pravin Kumar Tripathi said Mr. Mandi's bullet-riddled body was found in the early hours of Monday. A Maoist poster found at the spot said he was killed for extorting money in the name of left-wing extremism.
