President Pratibha Patil was greeted by Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on new year day.
The Prime Minister and the Vice-President were accompanied by their wives.
People from different walks of life and children visited the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday and conveyed their wishes to the President. The children came from Bahadurgarh, Faridabad and Ujina districts in Haryana and Ghaziabad district in Uttar Pradesh.
Ms. Patil welcomed the new year on the sprawling premises for the first time since she took over. Her annual retreat to Hyderabad had been cancelled these years with the Rashtrapati Bhavan saying it had been “deferred” due to official engagements in the capital.
