The Telangana Rashtra Samithi is upbeat over its prospects in the general elections after the party tasted success in the MPTC and ZPTC elections.
The results of the ZPTC/MPTC elections came as a breather to the party which could not secure the anticipated number of municipalities in the results for municipal bodies that were announced on Monday. The party feels the voting trend in the ZPTC/MPTC elections gave a fillip to the TRS’ expectations of putting up a good show in the elections to the Legislative Assembly and the Lok Sabha seats, results for which are slated to be declared on May 16.
TRS polit bureau member B. Vinod Kumar told The Hindu that the party was set to sweep all the zilla parishads in the north Telangana region and its performance was no less impressive in the southern part of the region. “We are ahead in five out of the nine zilla parishads establishing firm leads in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Medak districts. We are confident of doing well in the remaining districts too,” he added. Mr. Vinod said the TRS could register significant gains in spite of the fact that the elections to the municipalities and zilla/mandal parishads were held before the party came out with its manifesto and roadmap for Telangana development. “Voting pattern will have witnessed a major change if the elections were held after the party released its manifesto because voters’ mood was bound to tilt in favour of the party if they had known about the promises like loan waiver,” he said.
