Students of zilla parishad high schools in Mallam and Raparthi on the city outskirts penned Telugu poems on topics like the role of father and mother and friend and recited them during the monthly literary meeting of the city-based Aaswadana Sahiti Samiti at Gandhi Bhavan here.
Amanchi Srividya, Kanchumarthi Bhavani Syamala, Kanchumarthi Sai Bhavani, Uppalapati Sravya, Medidi Bhavani, Rayi Deva Neeharika, Desineedi Rajamani and M. Sivanagu – all students of classes VIII, IX and X from the government school – learnt the art of writing poems as per ‘Chandassu’ with the help of Telugu pandit Varanasi Kameswara Sarma during a three-day special workshop held recently.
Sharing his experiences in tutoring the students on poem writing with the audience, Mr. Kameswara Sarma said that all the students evinced interest in learning the art and they were equipped with good Telugu words. “All they needed was the guidance and support that was given by me. I am sure these children will become good poets in the years to come, provided they continued to write poems without any gap,” he said. Writer Angara Gopalakrishnacharyulu, popularly known as Krishnasri, underscored the need for encouraging the children to bring out a magazine of their own.
