Krishna District Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadde Anuradha on Tuesday burst into tears after witnessing pathetic state of pregnant women at the District Government Hospital here.

She saw women patients who were unable to afford fuel charges to go to the government hospital in Vijayawada for antenatal treatment. The women patients poured out their woes before the ZP chief, complaining that the hospital authorities were demanding payment of fuel charges for shifting them.

The ZP chief was in tears when one of the duty doctors tried to argue with her that the complaints were false. The duty doctors had no answer when asked why the women patients were kept waiting for transport.

The hospital authorities had failed to arrange neither 108 service vehicle nor hospital ambulance to shift the patients from the antenatal ward to Vijayawada for further treatment. Ms. Anuradha inquired about the funds needed for providing the patients with transport facility during her meeting with hospital Superintendent Jayakumar.

She sanctioned ₹2 lakh to arrange an ambulance for which ONGC had earlier released ₹9.7 lakh.

Responding to complaints from the patients on attendance of the doctors and services, Ms. Anuradha visits the hospital every Tuesday.
