Six women members of the YSR Congress Party led by actress-turned-MLA R.K. Roja on Tuesday lambasted Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for turning a deaf ear to the travails of poor members of Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA) groups in the State.
Speaking at the media point in the Assembly here, they regretted that while the old debts of the thrift groups had piled up to a whopping Rs.14,204 crore, they were not being sanctioned fresh loans on grounds that repayment was poor. They demanded that the loans be waived as they were not in a position to repay them.
They alleged that the Speaker Dr. Kodela Sivaprasada Rao was not showing any interest in allowing a debate on the issue. The other women MLAs included Akhila Priya, G. Charitha Reddy, Eswari, Srivani and Kalavathi.
"We sought an adjournment motion but it was disallowed and we were told to come through the proper notice. We have no alternative except to launch a State-wide struggle outside the Legislative Assembly. If the Government continues to neglect the women's problems, we will take the agitation right down to the mandal-level across the 13 districts of A.P.," Ms. Roja warned.
