YSR Congress MLAs have been suspended from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for a day on Thursday as they continued to disrupt the proceedings of the House.

As soon as the House assembled on Thursday morning, YSR Congress members thronged the Well of the House demanding that the bifurcation process be stopped and the State remained united.

Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayan Reddy appealed to the members to allow proceedings to continue as the members of all the regions should express their feelings on the Bill referred to the Legislature.

YSR Congress floor leader Y.S. VIjayalakshmi said the party was not against debate on the Bill, but it should be preceded by voting to reject the decision to divide the State. Legislative Affairs Minister S. Sailajanath tried to convince the members claiming that their views were important to communicate the feelings of the people, but in vain.

With the YSRCP members remaining unrelenting, Mr. Sailajanath moved the motion seeking suspension of the members, initially for two days. He, however, hastened to add that the members be suspended for one day.

Speaker Nadendla Manohar, accordingly, suspended 15 members of the YSRC while Ms. Vijayalakshmi staged a walk out in protest. Interestingly, the Congress rebels who switched loyalties to the YSRCP were not suspended.
