The YSR Congress Party had on Tuesday decided to raise at the national level the Swiss Challenge method adopted by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh Government for the construction of the new capital Amaravati as the policy was aimed at benefiting the Singapore companies, not the common people of the capital region.
YSRC MLA R.K. Roja said despite an experts committee set up by the Central Government rejecting the method and the Supreme Court showing displeasure, the Chief Minister was insisting on it to benefit Singapore companies and members of his coterie. Mr. Naidu was acting contrary to the Make in India campaign launched by the Central Government ignoring domestic talent and was clamouring for foreign companies through “unfair methods”.
The YSR Congress had therefore decided to take up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and press for global tenders to ensure transparency in the deals. “The TDP Government has left out the core issue and is trying to benefit foreign companies. The Centre had asserted that it will become part of the capital building but the State has ignored it in the lure of kickbacks,” she said.
The YSRC would accordingly explore all options to counter this and urge the Centre to discourage the State from going ahead with its policies which had a clause that the next Government could not cancel the memorandum of understanding unless it paid heavy compensation.
