YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy sounded the poll bugle in this town, considered to be the industrial hub of Telangana, by announcing his party’s decision to contest the general elections from both Telangana as well as Seemandhara to usher in ‘Rajanna Rajyam’ (YSR’s regime).
“I will bring back YSR’s [the former Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy] golden era to ensure poor and weaker sections’ welfare transcending region, caste, creed and religion barriers,” Mr. Jagan asserted at a well-attended public meeting christened ‘Jana Bheri’ held at Pavilion Grounds here on Wednesday night.
Banking heavily on YSR’s legacy and the welfare schemes initiated by him, Mr. Jagan set the agenda for the general elections by declaring that his party would sweep the elections both in Telangana and Seemandhra regions.
He went a step ahead by announcing his party’s first MP candidate from Telangana. “Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy will contest from Khammam Lok Sabha seat and join the Union Cabinet as a Minister soon,” Mr. Jagan said.
He slammed the Congress and Telugu Desam Party and held them responsible for the bifurcation. “The ruling and opposition parties joined hands and divided us geographically. However, they cannot divide our affection for each other,” he said.
