President of ‘Praja Spandana’ C.S. Rao on Thursday evening flagged off a replica of a steam engine ahead of YSR Congress’ ‘March for Self-Respect’ demanding special category status for the State and railway zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters.

YSRC district president Gudivada Amarnath will go on a padayatra from Anakapalle to Bhimunipatnam on twin demands. The 12-day yatra will begin on March 30 from Anakapalle.

The replica of a steam engine made of plywood and with the slogan “Railway Zone the Right of Visakhapatnam,” is mounted on a van.

The vehicle would be stationed at various parts of the city and later would go ahead of his padayatra, Mr. Amarnath said.

Mr. Amarnath said though three years had elapsed the promise that the Railway Zone would be sanctioned in six months did not materialise. He recalled that Mr. Rao and the Left parties and YSRC had agitated in the past for the zone. The present yatra was being taken out under the direction of the party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

He appealed to youth to support his yatra keeping the interests of future generations in view.

Former MLAs Tyanala Vijay Kumar and T. Gurumurthy Reddy, party leaders Kola Guruvulu, P. Murthy Yadav and Rongali Jagannadham participated.
