Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday asserted that nobody would be allowed to violate law, irrespective of whether the person was unruly person or MLA and the government would maintain law and order firmly.
Talking to reporters soon after the Assembly was adjourned amidst noisy scenes after the main opposition YSR Congress legislators stalled the proceedings demanding a discussion on what they termed “government-sponsored murders,” Mr. Naidu lashed out at their behaviour and said it was like “devil quoting scriptures.”
He said that his government was very clear and no politician would be allowed to violate the law. Emphasising that dignity and decorum of the Assembly had to be maintained, he asked: “How can anybody dictate?” Hitting out at the YSR Congress leadership, he said it was hardly 70 days since the TDP came to power and the State government was not yet settled. There was still no idea how much income the State would be getting and the cadre officers were yet to be posted.
‘Wedded to democratic values’ Even Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao acknowledged that Andhra Pradesh got a raw deal, he said and charged YSR Congress with failing to protect the State’s interests. Criticising the behaviour of first-time MLAs of the opposition party, he said there was a need to observe restraint and pointed out that all issues could be discussed if rules were followed.
Pointing out that nobody else in the House has as much political experience as he has, Mr. Naidu said he was wedded to democratic values. The Telugu Desam government has history of firmly maintaining law and order. Extremism, faction politics and communal violence were effectively controlled when it was in power earlier.
