The YSR Congress organised day-long stirs across the State in protest against, what it called, the miserable failure of the Telugu Desam Party government in implementing its pre-election promises, with waiver of loans obtained by farmers and DWCRA women topping the bill.
Demonstrations, bike rallies and protests were witnessed in almost all district headquarters towns on Friday. YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy led the party cadre in staging a massive demonstration in Visakhapatnam.
He warned that agitations would be intensified, if the government failed in waiving farmers and DWCRA loans without imposing any pre-conditions.
Participating in the protest organised in front of the Kadapa Collectorate, YSR Congress MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy alleged that contrary to the promise made in the Telugu Desam Party manifesto, Mr. Naidu claimed that he had promised waiver of crop loans, not all farm loans.
Banking on Mr. Naidu’s promise, farmers had lost crop insurance facility as they did not pay premium this year, but their hopes stood belied. The YSRC cadres of Chittoor district stormed the Collectorate as part of party’s Statewide “Maha Dharna”. Rajampeta MP Peddireddi Mithun Reddy said that they would relentlessly fight for the cause of farmers, unemployed youth and DWCRA groups.
Traffic hit
Traffic flow was affected on the Chittoor-Vellore highway owing to the protest.
In Srikakulam, YSRC leaders and Telugu Desam Party leaders resorted to a blame game over the loan waiver issue.
YSRC, which organised a massive dharna at Srikakulam Collectorate, alleged that the TDP chief had misled crores of people with his ‘false’ promises.
Blame gameYSRC leaders Reddi Shanti, Tammineni Sitaram, Dharmana Krishnadas and others urged people from all walks of life to question TDP leaders over their poll promises which remained unfulfilled.
Countering their allegations, Labour Minister K. Atchannaidu, former MLC Gorle Haribabu Naidu said that YSRC had no moral right to take up agitations since the Chief Minister was taking series of steps for the early implementation of loan waiver.
Addressing a gathering of YSRC protesters at the district West Godavari Collectorate in Eluru, former Minister and YSRC leader Dharmana Prasada Rao rubbished the reports published in a section of media suggesting his defection to the BJP. He said such reports were baseless and speculative, while declaring himself as a diehard loyalist of the YSR Congress.
