Tension broke out in Guntur on Monday after some unidentified persons set fire to two statues of former Chief Minister Y.S Rajasekhara Reddy at Koretipadu and at Reddypalem. The miscreants poured kerosene and then set fire to the statues sparking off tension in the locality. YSRCP city convener Lella Appireddy rushed to the statue centre at Koretipadu and staged a sit in with a large number of his followers.

Sporting black badges, Mr. Appireddy demanded that the accused should be arrested.

He was joined by Prathipadu MLA M. Sucharita.

They later went to Reddypalem where yet another statue of YSR was set on fire. Mr. Reddy and Ms. Sucharita condemned the act of vandalism and appealed to the party workers to stay calm and not to retaliate against any provocative act.
