YSR Congress to step up agitation

: The YSR Congress will step up stir for Special Category Status (SCS) both within and outside Parliament, its Whip in Parliament Y.V. Subba Reddy has asserted.

Expressing dismay over BJP national Secretary Sidarth Nath Singh ruling out SCS for Andhra Pradesh, he told reporters here that the TDP, which shared power with the BJP both at the Centre and in the State, owed an explanation as to why it was having a truck with the BJP.

“We will not rest till the BJP fulfilled its promise to provide SCS for not just five years but 10 years for Navyandhra to overcome bifurcation blues

“Since the TDP is not in a position to secure SCS on its own, it should snap ties with the BJP and join fight against the Centre above party lines to protect the interests of the cash-strapped State,” he added.

Returning from the hectic Budget session, he said a private member’s Bill moved by him seeking inclusion of Prakasam district in the list of seven backward districts for Special Development Package (SDP) would come up for discussion during the monsoon session of Parliament.
