Irked over the absence of Prakasam Collector G.S.R.K.R.Vijaykumar and Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer A. Prasad, the YSR Congress boycotted the Zilla Parishad general body meeting held here on Saturday.

Led by YSRC MP Y.V.Subba Reddy, MLAs and ZPTC members trooped out of the meeting hall as Zilla Parishad Chairman N. Balaji refused to concede to their demand of adjournment of the meeting to another date. Even as Mr. Balaji maintained that all decisions taken by the meeting would be binding on the district authorities, Mr. Subba Reddy opined that no meaningful discussion was possible in the absence of the key officials.

The meeting adopted a unanimous resolution moved by MLC Y. Srinivasulu Reddy, demanding a special development package for Prakasam district. Meanwhile, CPI(M) city Secretary G.V. Konda Reddy and 22 others were taken into preventive custody by the police when they tried to storm ZP meeting hall to press the demand.

Taking part in the discussion in the meeting, Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao joined the TDP MLAs and ZPTC members in pulling up Rural Water Supply officials for not doing enough to provide succour to the drought-hit people.

Taking a serious view of the absence of officials from different departments, he wanted them to effectively implement the summer action plan to mitigate drought. He wanted them to double their efforts to implement the ‘Neeru Chettu’ programme.
