The YSR Congress members led by its deputy floor leader, Jyothula Nehru, staged a walkout from the State Assembly on Tuesday, protesting against the alleged inclusion of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers and sympathisers in the committees appointed by the government to select beneficiaries for various welfare schemes.

Even persons who unsuccessfully contested the polls on the TDP ticket were being appointed members of various panels and this was creating a lot of resentment in the villages, they alleged. “In the name of social workers, those donning yellow shirts are being promoted,” Mr. Nehru alleged. In response to the allegation, Finance Minister, Y. Ramakrishnudusaid that the government was appointing such persons who had worked in the field and there was no politics in it. “Sarpanches, irrespective of their affiliations to political parties, head the committees,” he said.
