Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has requested the NTPC-BHEL Power Projects Pvt Ltd to complete its first phase of power plants equipment manufacturing facility by 2011-12 and the second phase by 2013 -14.
“Work on a mission mode and complete the project within the timeframe,” the Chief Minister told the NTPC-BHEL Power Projects’ Chairman and Managing Director C P Singh, who met him here on Monday.
The Rs 6,000 crore plant will be set up at Mannavaram near temple town Srikalahasti in Chittoor district. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will lay the foundation-stone for the project on September 6.
Singh reviewed the arrangements for the foundation-stone laying ceremony.
The CMD told the Chief Minister that the new NTPC-BHEL project was much bigger than the three-decade old Ramachandrapuram unit of BHEL, which has only 200 ancillaries and an employment of 5,500.
Mannavaram project would enable setting up of more than 400 ancillary units giving big boost to industrialisation and provide huge employment opportunities in the region, he said.
Mr. Reddy, meanwhile, directed the state government officials to lay a four-lane road connecting Mannavaram to the nearest National Highway. He also promised full support to NTPC-BHEL for completion of the project on schedule.
