The episode of three Rajya Sabha members from Telugu Desam staying away from voting on FDI took another twist on Sunday with one of them, Y.S. Chowdary, sending his resignation letter to party president N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Mr. Chowdary stated that he had sent the letter resigning his Rajya Sabha membership to Mr. Naidu and urged him to forward the same to the Rajya Sabha Chairman. “I have requested the party chief to accept my resignation as it will help in clearing the air of suspicion,” he said.
He said he was hurt by the attitude of the party leaders targeting him even after he had admitted his mistake of staying away from the voting due to negligence. The party leadership had not asked his resignation but he was doing it voluntarily due to criticism from within the party, he noted.
Not quitting party
Mr. Chowdary, however, made it clear that he was not quitting the party and would continue to work in the organisation as it was “TDP’s ideology which attracted me to politics.” Some TDP leaders were of the view that rival parties have blown up the issue out of proportion, though their MPs had indeed committed a mistake and accepted it. Meanwhile, Mr. Naidu, during his padayatra in Adilabad district, said he was hurt by the MPs’ action. He stated that T. Devender Goud had informed him about his absence in advance and he was looking into the explanation given by Mr. Chowdary and Gundu Sudha Rani. He would not spare anybody if they were found guilty, he said.
