Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) senior leader and Lok Sabha member from Peddapalli G. Vivekanand has cautioned the Union Home Ministry that the frustration among youths in Telangana would once again arise if the separate Telangana state was not carved out immediately.
In a letter submitted in person to Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde here on Tuesday, the MP, who recently switched over to the TRS from the Congress, pooh-poohed Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s claim that naxalism would increase in the Telangana region if the new State was carved out. In fact, it was the other way round. History showed that Maoists were active in Seemandhra region and not in Telangana.
If Telangana was created, “with increased development and job opportunities focussed there, it will be ensured that extremism will not see the light of the day, as there will be no exploitation of people in the region”.
He recalled that founders of Maoist movement like Kondapalli Seetaramaiah and K.G. Satyamurthy were from the coastal Andhra region. The attack on TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu in Tirupati (when he was CM) and unearthing of land mines recently in the present CM’s constituency were proof for the argument that extremists were more active in Andhra than in Telangana area, he claimed.
The MP told Mr. Shinde that the TRS would not compromise for anything less than a separate Telangana State with Hyderabad as its capital. Meanwhile, a Congress MP from Seemandhra challenged the Telangana Congress leaders’ assertion that they would indeed achieve Telangana.
“They are just day dreaming”. They might get the nod of the party high command for the new State but in the Parliament they could not get the Constitution amendment for forming the new State, he said.
Informed sources said as Hyderabad continues to be a contentious issue on Telangana demand, the Home Ministry was considering whether it could be declared as a joint capital for 10 years with police being brought under the control of the Home Ministry a la the National Capital Territory of Delhi model.
