The State government is planning to give more than just unemployment allowance to the youth. It is planning to impart them skills and update their knowledge to enable them to better their employment potential along with the monthly payment, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said.

Intervening in a short discussion on ‘Investment, Industries, Employment and Youth Policy’ on the last day of the 10th session of the Legislative Assembly here on Saturday, Mr. Naidu said the government was in the process of developing a sustainable and meaningful programme for the unemployed youth in the 21-30 age group to improve their employability. Besides paying them the allowance, a bit of hand-holding was necessary, he added.

Field work

Mr. Naidu said he wanted the youth to be of use to society and develop a link with the grassroots through field work. Field work was given a great deal of importance in all the best educational institutions in the world. Unfortunately, those who study in educational institutes in the country had no link with the field. He recalled how students were given 5% marks for participating in the ODF campaign and becoming partners in the construction of 24 lakh toilets.

Partnership Summit

He said the two Partnership Summits resulted in attracting an investment of ₹1,37,336 crore in 24,524 units and generating 5,35,853 jobs. “We will provide the names of the investors to those interested,” he said.

A total investment of ₹4,32,790 crore was being expected, generating 14,25,839 jobs from the two summits. The next summit was going to be held in Visakhapatnam on February 23, 24 and 25.

He said more investments would be coming to the State soon because of availability of plenty of inexpensive power. India had abundant supply of solar and wind power, and Andhra Pradesh was among the top States generating power. The cost of generating one unit of solar power had come down from ₹15 to ₹6.50 and the cost of one unit of wind power was between ₹2.50 and ₹3.50, he said.

Mr. Naidu said he was going to South Korea to sign agreements for establishing 100 new units in Anantapur district. South Korea was ready to build an enter township in the district, he added.
