Venkaiah Naidu recalls services of Pt. Nehru

Calling for dedicated efforts for the country’s progress, Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs M. Venkaiah Naidu said youth should take up the responsibility of developing society.

Recalling the services of India’s first Prime Minister during Children’s Day celebrations here, he said Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru had laid strong a foundation for the country’s progress in all fields of human development. “Nehruji had a special regard for children and hence the Children’s Day celebrations,” he said.

In Vijayawada, Minister for Women Empowerment, Child Welfare and Disabled & Senior Citizens Welfare Peethala Sujatha said the government was making efforts to make Andhra Pradesh a child labour-free State.

She said efforts were also on to groom Anganwadi centres on the lines of corporate bodies. On reports of female infanticide, she said people should give due importance to the girl child.

Irrigation Minister Devnineni Umamaheswara Rao exhorted Anganwadi staff to work with utmost commitment to ensure success of several welfare programmes launched by the government.

Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas, Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Krishna Zilla Parishad chairperson Gadde Anuradha and Mayor Koneru Sridhar were present.

Schools were abuzz with activity, with students participating in the celebrations. Fund-raising activities, cultural programmes, awareness rallies and drawing competitions were organised at Delhi Public School, Sarada Ramakrishna Vidyalaya and Gollapudi Mandal Parishad Upper Primary School.
