One more road in One Town here, which was recently refurbished, caved in on Thursday.
In the morning, motorists found a gaping hole three feet wide and more than 10 feet deep on the road, very close to the bridge running over the railway track.
Also, close to the cavity there is an underground pipeline raised above the road level and extends to another side of the track on the bridge’s surface.
Locals say the pipeline, which often leaks, might be a reason for the formation of the cavity.
Apparently, the road surface around the hole has also sunk, posing a risk to the motorists.
The issue was taken to the notice of municipal authorities through media persons. Later, the municipal authorities placed a small barricade over the hole to caution motorists. The incident turned a cause for concern for thousands of motorists residing in the nearby areas of Chittinagar, Rajarajeswari Pet. The road became most sought after with the diversion of traffic on NH in One town in view of Kanakadurga flyover construction.
This is the sixth such incident in the West constituency area in the past few months and the civic body has not taken any action against the persons or organisations responsible for laying poor quality roads.
