Placing once again an additional burden on power consumers in the State, the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has permitted the four distribution companies to collect Fuel Surcharge Adjustment Charges (FSAC) to the tune of Rs.542 crore for the fourth quarter of 2012-13.

The commission issued the orders on Saturday as a sequel to public hearings it held on the proposals by the discoms seeking to collect a sum of Rs.1,137 crore for this quarter.

As per the order, the consumers will have to pay for this quarter during October, November and December, 2013. As a result, the monthly electricity bills will shoot up for this period. The discoms sought collection of Rs.1.027 per unit as FSAC for this period citing the increase in prices of goal, gas and purchases from outside sources while the APERC restricted this to Rs.0.49 per unit through its order.
