In a candid admission, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said that he had committed some mistakes as Chief Minister and was ready to correct them.
Mr. Naidu’s remarks at review meeting of two Assembly constituencies on the fourth day of his “Vastunna Meekosam” padayatra in the district, caught his senior colleagues such as T. Devender Goud, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu and others by surprise.
It all began when a party worker asked Mr. Naidu what he had done for them during his nine-year stint, adding that Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s track record in this regard was impressive.
He also pointed out that partymen were unable to face farmers over Mr. Naidu’s reported remark that “agriculture is a waste”. In his lengthy reply, Mr. Naidu said: “Yes, I have committed some mistakes but I am ready to rectify them.
A few sycophants rendered wrong advice to me and went on praising me even when I committed mistakes. I realised this when I started meeting party workers at review meetings and during the padayatra,” he said.
Seeking to set the record straight, the TDP supremo said he had never uttered a word against farmers. “I had never said that agriculture is a losing proposition. YSR and his party distorted my statement,” he added.
On not favouring party workers, Mr. Naidu said that he neither indulged in corruption nor allowed any of his party workers to indulge in the same, which improved their standing in society. “Because of this, we can hold our heads high.
In sharp contrast, the loyalists of YSR are going to jail,” he added. Those leaving the party would repent soon and return before the elections.
