The one-day special programme on juvenile jurisprudence here on Saturday highlighted the role of the police, the child welfare committee and the Juvenile Justice Board in protecting the rights of the ‘children in conflict with law’.

The designated children welfare officers from the district rural police and investigation officers and the representatives of the NGOs working for child rights attended the session by a team of senior judges conducted by the Krishna District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at the District Courts Complex. “The investigation officer must establish every evidence to establish the age to guarantee the legal right and protection of the children,” said Mr. Lakshmana Rao. “Lack of investigation will completely change the course of the case,” he said referring to a recent case in which a juvenile was awarded life sentence owing to the poor investigation by the police. However, it case was investigated thoroughly again. The police and the child welfare committees were told to ensure care and protection of the children and implement the Acts in letter and spirit. First Additional Judge Rama Krishna, DLSA secretary P.R. Rajeev and senior judges shared their experience on the jurisprudence.
