Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayan Reddy has said that Rs. 1,520 crore has been sanctioned to carry out the works on the Somasila high level canal to cater to the irrigation needs of upland areas in Nellore district.
Addressing a Rachabanda programme held at Anantasagaram mandal here on Saturday, Mr. Reddy said that tenders would be invited and works would be started soon. He announced that the high level canal project was named as the Anam Sanjeeva Reddy lift irrigation scheme.
Listing out the priorities of the Rachabanda programme, Mr. Ramanarayana Reddy said that it was primarily intended to take care of the needs of poor people and several benefits were being distributed to them under various government programmes.
At the Anantasagaram programme, Mr. Reddy distributed 915 ration cards, 604 pensions, 220 Indiramma houses and 73 Bangaru Talli certificates to the respective beneficiaries.
He also laid a foundation stone for the construction of a Rs. 10-lakh community hall.
Additional Joint Collector Ch. Penchala Reddy, several people’s representatives and officials took part in the programme.
