April 23, 2015 05:05 pm | Updated 05:05 pm IST - ANANTAPUR:

A woman and a child died when the wall of a house collapsed in Mallereddypalli village of Kambadur mandal on Thursday. Parts of the district including the Kambadur mandal received rain coupled with heavy winds which triggered the collapse of wall of a thatched house.

Fourty-five year old Ramanjulamma and her seven year old daughter Swetha got buried under the debris of the wall. The two were rushed to hospital at Kalyandurgam town, but the doctors announced both of them as ‘brought dead’.

On the other hand, almost all mandals in Kalyanadurgam and Rayadurg Assembly constituencies - Kanekal, Bommanahal, Vidapanakal, Gummagatta, Beluguppa, Bommanahal, D. Hirehal - besides parts of Atmakur mandal received rain.

Strong winds which characterised the rain hit horticulture crops in more than 10 hectares, according to preliminary estimates. However, Horticulture Department informed The Hindu that they had not received any claims of crop damage, if any were made, of crop damage and that they would look into any such claims on a priority basis.

However, the rest of the district didnot receive any rainfall with Anantapur, Tadipatri and a few other towns registering temperatures in excess of 40 degree Celsius during the day.
