Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asserted on Monday that he would stand by Nandyal MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy’s family and assured Telugu Desam Party’s support to his daughter and Allagadda MLA Bhuma Akhilapriya.

Speaking to the media after placing a wreath on Nagi Reddy’s body at his residence at Allagadda, Mr. Naidu said it was unfortunate that Nagi Reddy passed away within hours of meeting him. Terming his abrupt demise a grave loss to the TDP, which cannot be filled, the Chief Minister described him as a leader with dynamism and commitment to the party and the people.

Mr. Naidu said Nagi Reddy urged him to develop roads, public amenities and infrastructure in the Nandyal and Allagadda constituencies. He promised to develop the two constituencies as desired by Nagi Reddy.

‘Lost a family member’

Recalling that he directed officials to keep an air ambulance ready to fly Nagi Reddy to Hyderabad if needed, Mr. Naidu said all human efforts were made to save him, but God’s will was otherwise. “Some incidents occur beyond one’s comprehension,” he remarked. The TDP lost a family member and the party would extend all cooperation to his next of kin, he added. The Chief Minister recalled his four-day stay at Allagadda when Nagi Reddy contested in the bye-election after his brother and MLA Sekhar Reddy’s demise. When the TDP leadership asked him to contest against then Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, he did so without any hesitation or asking any questions.

When Nagi Reddy was elected MP, the TDP fielded his wife Sobha Nagi Reddy for the Allagadda Assembly seat and she won, he said and recalled her tragic death in a road accident in 2014. Their son Jagat Vikhyat Reddy was studying Intermediate and two daughters Akhilapriya, Allagadda MLA, and Nagamounika would be given all support, he said.

Mr. Naidu, who arrived at Allagadda by helicopter at 2.15 p.m., paid homage to Nagi Reddy and held discussions with Akhilapriya, her sister and brother and her uncle and Kurnool MLA S.V. Mohan Reddy in the departed leader’s residence at Allagadda for nearly half an hour. He later attended the last rites of Nagi Reddy, who was laid to rest with official honours beside his wife Sobha Nagi Reddy’s samadhi at Allagadda.
