Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham on Saturday said he would one day launch the padayatra from an undisclosed location. Denouncing the police for obstructing his movement, Mr. Padmanabham said he was determined to take out the padayatra to mount pressure on the government to announce an action plan for including the community in the list of Backward Classes.

Stating that members of the community were being “tortured by the police” by filing against them bindover cases and clamping Sections 30 and 144, he said that they were fighting for a cause in a Gandhian way. He accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of showing nepotism, he said the governments that won people’s confidence alone lasted long.

Meanwhile, former MLA of Gopalapuram in West Godavari T. Vanita, former MLC K. Sivaramakrishna, and leaders from Kovvuru such as Garapati Krishna and Thota Ramakrishna met Mr. Padmanabham and expressed their solidarity with his movement.

Kapu youth from Rowthulapudi mandal of Prattipadu constituency led by K. Venkataramana met Mr. Padmanabham and sat in along with the JAC leaders
