YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday said he would revive the ‘Bangaru Thalli’ scheme shelved by the TDP government if his party was voted to power in the 2019 elections.

Interacting with Muslim minorities at Kalluru village of Pulicharla mandal in the district, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had reneged on his 2014 poll promises. He gradually reduced the importance of the scheme and stopped it altogether, affecting the poor and downtrodden families, he alleged.

Responding to appeals for more funds to madrasas, Mr. Jagan promised to initiate steps to strengthen the institutions on coming to power. In the absence of high schools and junior colleges in Urdu medium, children were forced to drop out, he said. To a request of imams, he said he would enhance their honorarium if voted to power.
