Director-General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao said on Saturday that the police would not give permission to Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham’s proposed padayatra on July 26 keeping in view the previous incidents.

“Nobody has applied for police permission for the padayatra so far. During the previous padayatra, many violent incidents took place. Our duty is to maintain law and order, and no permission will be given to Mr. Padmanabham’s padayatra also,” the DGP told the media here.

Tuni arson

The police would soon file charge sheet in the court pertaining to the violence witnessed in Tuni in East Godavari district during the Kapu Garjana on January 31, 2016.

The meeting called by Mr. Padmanabham had turned violent as the agitators torched the Ratnachal Express at the Tuni railway station, attacked police stations, and damaged many vehicles. Many policemen suffered injuries in the incident.

“As many as 60 cases had been registered in the Tuni violence issue and about 250 persons involved in arson arrested. We will file the first charge sheet shortly,” the DGP said.
