Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy lambasted the TDP government on Sunday, accusing it of ignoring the plight of the poorer sections, but taking up works that fetched commissions.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu chaired several Cabinet meetings on taking possession of the land of the farmers and the poor, but not on the woes of the poor, he alleged in his Praja Sankalpa Yatra meetings at Proddatur and Duvvur in Kadapa district.
Asserting that he would continue to press for Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh, he called for people’s support in his endeavour.
The SCS would result in huge investments, tax concessions and generation of employment, he said.
Mr. Jagan assured handloom weavers that he would take up their issue after they apprised him at Proddatur that they were in distress owing to lack of loans. He also wove a cloth on a handloom.
Employees urged Mr. Jagan to bring pressure on the government to scrap the Contributory Pension Scheme and autorickshaw drivers narrated their hardship to him. Addressing a public meeting at Duvvur in Mydukur constituency, he said water to the KC Canal used to be released in August every year to facilitate sowing of crops when his father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister.
The TDP government was releasing water in November, he said, and added that farmers were unable to sow two crops in a year.
Mr. Jagan would tour the constituency on Monday and halt at Chagalamarri in Kurnool district.
