The protesting legislators from Seemandhra region plunged the Assembly into confusion for some time on Wednesday. The agitated members who stormed the well of the House pressed the Bell, signalling the commencement of the proceedings, even before Speaker Nadendla Manohar formally entered the House. The repeated sound of the Bell forced the members waiting outside to rush into the House while the officers on duty were left red-faced. Legislature secretary S. Rajasadaram’s appeal to the members repeatedly not to indulge in such acts went in vain.
There were other lighter moments too. With the proceedings about to commence, TRS members who entered the House blocked the passages leading to the well of the House in anticipation that the Seemandhra MLAs would continue to stage their protest and prevent debate on the AP Reorganisation Bill. YSR Congress member G. Srikanth Reddy, however, managed to give a slip to the TRS members and reached the well holding aloft placard “Save AP” and he was soon followed by other members.
Unrelenting, the TRS members continued requesting the YSR Congress and the TDP members to resume their seats and allow the proceedings. At one stage, TRS MLA T. Harish Rao assisted by hefty MLA G. Kamalakar physically lifted a couple of TDP members and shifted them to their seats.
‘Lobbying’ for a cause
What will the members do when the Assembly runs for just three minutes flat? They will chitchat away to glory in the lobbies.
That is what happened when Congress MLA, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy hailing from Telangana stumped the two Ministers, Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy and Vatti Vasant Kumar with his proposition that the Chief Minister was playing double game. After giving his commitment to the AICC in Delhi that he will abide by CWC decision on bifurcation, Mr. Kiran Reddy was championing the cause of Samaikyandhra in Hyderabad, he said.
In effect he was not going against high command but creating an impression that he was fighting the Central leadership. If it were a real fight he would have been somewhere else…. Minister, Krishna Reddy intervened and asked Mr. Venkat Reddy : After 60 years of married life, you are seeking a divorce, who will take care of us and who will marry us ? Why can’t you change the name of AP into Telangana and keep the State intact.
