When Naidu ‘missed’ journos

December 22, 2014 12:05 am | Updated 12:05 am IST

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was shocked not to find media corps at the talk he gave to showcase the State’s potential as an investment destination at Hotel Novotel in Visakhapatnam at an event organised by a reputed English magazine on December 17. “I missed all of you. At least the organisers should have invited the print media,” he told reporters later. Mr. Naidu also chided the Ministers and officials who attended the programme for not taking the initiative to ensure the presence of media persons.

Women ZPTC

member floors all

That the slogan of women empowerment is a sham came to the fore at a meeting of Kolleru fishermen held in Eluru.  Sydu Satyanarayan, president of the Kolleru Fiserhermen Cooperative Society, allowed a good number of men to speak at length on the plight of fishermen in Kolleru and the need to downsize the wildlife sanctuary for restoration of their lost livelihood, barring the lone Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) member Matta Rajyalakshmi.

Explaining the cause, he said since she did not have enough exposure to public platforms, her spouse Subba Rao would speak on her behalf. It took the intervention of Government Whip Chintamaneni Prabhakar who chided Mr. Satyanarayana for denying the women representative her right to make the latter realise his mistake. The unassuming ZPTC, meanwhile, floored the audience with her impressive oratory skills.

Celebrations galore

to woo party bosses

Active participation during the celebration of their leaders’ birthdays by second rung leaders has become a yardstick for their ‘loyalty’ in Srikakulam district. Srikakulam MP Kinjarapu Rammohan’s birthday was celebrated with much fanfare on December 18, though he was out of station. Several leaders donated blood and distributed fruits to orphans and senior citizens in old age homes. If some of them released posters and pasted them at prominent places, others called him 'young tiger' by exhibiting flexi boards at prominent centres. The same is the case with YSR Congress. For the first time, YSRC leaders celebrated Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s birthday in Srikakulam on Saturday by forming a committee, distributing various responsibilities to the local leaders. It is understood that the leaders who are aspirants of Srikakulam municipal elections spent lavishly to draw the attention of their party bosses.
