We’ll settle for nothing short of Rayalaseema State: JAC

July 09, 2013 11:56 pm | Updated June 04, 2016 03:57 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Even as the Congress is in a catch-22 situation over the Telangana demand, the Rayalaseema Joint Action Committee (RJAC) on Tuesday expressed its opposition to any move to form a Rayala-Telangana State and urged the high command to immediately carve out a separate Rayalaseema State. An RJAC delegation, led by vice-president Bhuman, met Congress general-secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh Digvijay Singh here and submitted a memorandum, saying Rayalaseema was the most backward of the three regions in the State. This was even acknowledged by the Justice B.N. Srikrishna Committee by stating that “on the whole it would appear that the deprived region is Rayalaseema, not Telangana.”

The memorandum claimed that the Srikrishna Committee had categorically said if a Telangana State was formed, there would be big struggles and movements for a separate Rayalaseema. “We categorically oppose any proposal other than the formation of a Rayalaseema State. The Rayala-Telangana proposal itself is a heart-burning issue,” the delegation said.
